Like most everyone from this branch of the family, George Washington Brewer's ancestral roots were deeply set in the colonial ground of southern Virginia.  His great, great grandfather settled his father's estate there, including the land and slaves, in 1744 and received a land grant in North Carolina a few years later.  The family was all there by around 1755.  Quite a large clan of Brewers ended up in what was eventually Chatham County as well as the surrounding areas.  During and after the Revolutionary War, folks were on the move.  His portion of the family migrated into Tennessee and Kentucky, where George was born.  He was born 11 Sep 1847 at Bull Skin Creek in Clay County, Kentucky and was a veteran of the Civil War, a preacher, and also operated a steam mill on the Brewer's Branch of Goose Creek in Clay County.  George died 14 Sep 1941 in Clay County, Kentucky.

    1. Thanks! I'm so glad we were granted permission, too! Assuming that Jacob Fletcher Brewer (1794-1862/5) is actually Isaac Brewer's son (some believe he is and some don't), then the above pictured George Washington Brewer would be a 3rd cousin of our John Wesley Brewer (1816-1863), who married Mary America Hunter (1814-1890).
